As a writer, the state of my laptop perfectly describes my emotional and physical conditions. If you’re a writer like me, chances are, you suck at laptop care.

And that’s nothing to be ashamed about. We all suck at taking care of ourselves sometimes, so taking care of our items often takes a back seat. But don’t worry. With these tips, you’ll be able to master how to take care of your laptop while working from home or working on-site.

1. Maintain healthy habits and hygiene

Physical and mental well-being are prerequisites to good health. We take care of our body through a mix of daily physical and mental exercises. Laptop care 101 will require you to do the same.

A good rule of thumb on how to take care of laptop keyboard is to keep liquids and food away from your laptop. This will help avoid accidental spills and keep the keyboard and other crevices on your device crumb-free.

In addition, here’s the simplest way how to take care of laptop battery – avoid overcharging your device or abusing your battery. In fact, don’t ignore those pesky signals from your computer to update or restart. Trust me, your laptop needs it.

2. Don’t overwork

Just like you, your laptop also needs to rest, so don’t be afraid to let it lie low for a while and enjoy some downtime. This helps you prolong the quality of your battery for longer. Your laptop will send alerts that its battery is drained or that they need charging. Be better at laptop care by actively listening to your laptop’s needs.

That said, your body will do the same. As you give your laptop a break, make sure to have enough time to rest to recharge your mind and body.

3. Invest in accessories

We all love shiny, new stuff. It’s a bonus if the item is functional, chic, and cute. Try to invest in laptop care products such as a case to keep your laptop safe from scratches and dents on the go. There are many out there in the market now, sure, but vegan and environmentally-friendly products like this sleeve or portfolio are great options.

Bad habits are addicting and hard to get out of, so don’t push yourself too hard when trying to make these goals. You can be better at laptop care one step at a time.
