Five lazy-girl hacks for Type B travellers

Planning a trip can take a lot of headspace. And sometimes, we just don’t have the capacity to plan as thoroughly as we would like.

For the go-with-the-flow traveller, planning everything out to the T can get overwhelming and stressful.

The solution? Travel smarter. There are many ways to reduce the stress of travelling. Here are five hacks for Type B travellers who want to make travelling a little easier.

Save it for your next trip!

1. Upgrade your airport game

An underrated tool to bring as a carry-on essential? A digital luggage scale. You can use it to weigh your suitcase at your hotel and repack accordingly, saving you the hassle of repacking at the airport.

We’re all familiar with finding ways to make your luggage stand out in a sea of carry-on bags. The most common ways to do this are to use luggage covers and add colorful ribbons. I find that sticking reflective tape on the bottom of your suitcase makes it easier to find. Most of the time, luggage comes out of the luggage carousel lying down. That sliver of reflective light can make your suitcase stand out better.

2. Book in advance (and online)

These days, it’s much easier to do everything using your phone. Here is a list of things you can do online in advance:

  • Fill out your immigration details
  • Check in your baggage
  • Check in at your hotel,
  • Purchase a roaming device
  • Buy a day-tour package, and more!

For the Type B traveller who has flexible travel preferences, a day tour package is a great investment as it takes the load off planning and buying tickets at prime destinations. These days, there are even food tours available for foodies.

3. Pack multi-purpose and foldable items

Saving space in your carry-on? Multi-purpose items are your best friend. For example, a universal charger for your device is useful, especially when you frequently travel to different destinations.

Apart from that, a leather passport holder (which can also hold your boarding pass and cards) is also a good investment when you’re at the airport. Once you’re ready to explore your destination, you can use it as a card or paper holder. Finally, a good old foldable backpack or shopping bag is also a must-have.

4. Rethink your travel fashion

Don’t let travel get in the way of your inner fashionista. To save luggage space, try to go for more wrinkle-free fabrics that can withstand being jostled around in your carry-on. Think knit fabric, rayon, or even a polyester blend.

No need to fold your clothes intricately into your travel organizers; you can just toss them in there if you feel like it. If you can’t avoid bringing clothing that isn’t wrinkle-free (and don’t want to bring a steamer), try the good old hack of hanging it somewhere in the bathroom while you take a hot shower.

5. Read up on money matters

Don’t let money matters stress you out during your vacation. A standard lazy-girl hack is to pay using your credit card or digital wallet whenever you can. This saves you the hassle of holding on to cash and also helps you track your expenses more carefully.

But of course, this doesn’t apply to all destinations. In some countries, cash is still king. In which case, it’s smart to bring an envelope-type wallet that can carry different cash sizes (and coins, of course).
